Claire Hardy understands the challenges of making a
living as an artist. Though her parents encouraged her to explore the arts,
they also emphasized the importance of having a reliable income. After
college, she become a graphic designer and web developer. But inevitably, this
was not enough. She was restless to become a painter.
She took a risk and left her stable job to study at the Art Institute of
Florence,
Italy
. Once she was there, she become known for throwing herself deeply into each
assignment, and was often given additional bonus work. In addition to her
classes, she traveled extensively throughout
Europe
studying master painters and ancient frescoes.
Now, Ms Hardy paints in her garden at her home in
Sewickley
,
Pennsylvania
. Each painting is an experiment, filtering what she sees into patterns of
lights and darks, warm and cool colors and opaque and transparent glazes. She
loves the atmospheric effect of varying her brushwork with soft and crisp
edges.
“In experimenting with oil painting on a daily basis, I have discovered a
passion for it. I consider painting a daily journey, and I am eager to see the
next painting.” Giving herself over to her dream of becoming a painter has
paid off, as her work has increasingly found placement in art collections and
in the homes of art lovers worldwide.
